"Excuse me, are you Miss Smith?" A young waiter walked over, and once she gave a nod, he continued, "The gentleman who dined with you earlier said something urgent came up at home, so he left first. The bill's been settled. He wished you a lovely evening."

Even though she was completely caught off guard, Vera kept her composure and gave the waiter a sweet smile.
The guy had clearly never been this close to someone so gorgeous—his whole face turned red. He stammered something like "No problem," waved his hand awkwardly, and hurried away, not daring to look her in the eyes again.
