Callie felt a sudden warmth in her heart at his attitude.
As the sound of footsteps outside grew faint, Nelson took her hand and led her out of the hidden compartment. Moving quickly, they climbed to the top of the ship's cabin. Once there, he reached out to pull her up. Standing together in the high winds, their hair was blown wildly as the gusts roared around them.
From above, they could see Jaquan pacing the deck below, his face dark with anger. He was addressing the gathered bodyguards.
"Other than the guards stationed at the warehouse, why is one of you missing?" he demanded.
The bodyguards had failed to find Callie. Now grouped together, they exchanged glances and realized someone was indeed missing.
“It’s Dylan! Dylan’s gone!” someone finally said.
“I was just patrolling with him earlier! How strange…”
Jaquan’s expression grew even darker. He cracked the whip in his hand, the sharp sound cutting through the air.
