That night, Gabriella let her dad stay the night, so she nestled on the sofa, ready for bed. Unlike what she expected, Izaak did not look for her—he didn’t have the time to. He accompanied a few investors and entertained them with alcohol and flattery.
After sending off the drunk investors, Trevor spat in disdain. “What a bunch of losers!”
Izaak leaned on the car, faintly breathing out smoke. He didn’t second Trevor’s sentiment but agreed silently in his heart.
“I’ll drive you home,” Trevor said as he held the car keys. “You drunk too much.”
The alcohol had long numbed Izaak. The world was already spinning, but he still looked extremely clear-headed and calm. He threw the cigarette butt on the ground and extinguished it with the sole of his shoe. “Find a quiet bar. I don’t want to go home.”
They got inside the car, and Trevor drove to the nearest high-end bar. As usual, Trevor got two women, one on his left, the other on his right, while Izaak sat opposite them, drinking gin alone.
