Chapter 24
Izaak’s eyes were a maze. Gabriella easily got lost in them and wandered. It felt like there was a new universe in his deep eyes.
All the noise around faded into the background. As the rain rustled quietly in Gabriella's ears, Izaak's promise loudly echoed. An implicit promise of unconditional faith. That he believed her and would always believe her.
She sniffled and asked in a weak voice, “Why?”
He smiled warmly at her. “The heart doesn’t really rely on logic most of the time.”
He gently took her cold little hand and pressed it into his left chest, where his heart was. Gabriella felt his smooth and powerful heartbeat, and an inexplicable warmth wrapped around her.
“No matter what happens,” he said, his chest vibrating as he spoke, “even if the entire world doubts you, I will still believe you. Because you are my wife.”
Gabriella’s eyelashes fluttered a few times, disoriented but pleased at his reassuring words. She was beautiful even when tears damped her face. Her eyes were red like
