An awkward silence engulfed the table.
Ron and Anne seemed to have become highly uncomfortable with what had been said, and the others did not seem much better either; take Madam Sager, for example.
She frowned so hard that her wrinkles surfaced on her face like crumpled paper. She scoffed sharply, pushed the tableware aside, and declared rather stoutly, “I’m full.”
Anne quickly went up to her. “Come on, I’ll take you home.”
That was when Ada suddenly approached with a glass of wine of her own.
She raised the glass in Madam Sager’s direction and exclaimed brightly with a delightful smile, "Grandma, let me toast to you as well. I wish you great joy, and may all of your heart’s desires be fulfilled. Live a long and healthy life!”
She brushed past Sherry as she gave the toast, and the glass suddenly tipped over in her hands and spilled its entire contents on Sherry’s left arm.
