His voice echoed through the city, ringing in my ear. The entire city would be listening in, hiding in whatever bomb shelter they could. As I stood at the podium, I couldn't shake the overwhelming feeling of dread that weighed on me. The importance of this moment was crushing, and I knew that every word I uttered was a double-edged sword. I had to buy us time with whatever tricks I could manage, and admittedly, I had none.
I took a deep breath, thinking back to the speech that Eason had half-drafted and all of his notes.
Figure out what he really wants. Had been one of the notes. I had scratched that section out because we already knew.
Then, it dawned on me. I knew what he wanted. What I didn't know was if he had it or not. Could I figure that out from arguing with him?
