As we boarded the crowded bus, a knot of unease tightened in my gut. Astarte made a show of being intrigued. She smiled for every photo and seemed genuinely delighted, all the while, she explained her plan.

She shrugged. "It would be the work of a few hours to rebuild your headquarters. A gift of fixing something is the best way to solidify a new friendship... A way of saying that I contribute to your life."
