Alpha Enzo stopped cold.
Like someone had thrown a bucket of ice water straight down his spine.
I'd said it.The words were barely out of my mouth, but they'd landed like a hammer: “She's Alpha Wade's mother?”
He blinked, once. Leaned back half an inch like I'd physically struck him.
Then whatever emotion had flickered on his face—shock, guilt, some impossible mix of both—vanished behind a cold, practiced mask, one I'd seen on plenty of Alphas before when they were backed into corners.
He cleared his throat, voice low and tight.
“Yes. She is.”
It was like someone had poured smoke into my veins.
I took a step back, trying to function, to stabilize.
My heartbeat was thudding in my ears.
