Chapter 12
On the day I visited Cameron, I burned up a high fever. As I drifted in and out of lucidity, I saw many people. They called me Ms. Wells and told me my secret guard, Felix, had been injured.
Felix.
I saw him—the young man with the mark underneath his eyes. He'd appeared in my dreams before.
He kneeled before me and looked up at me. His eyes gleamed with his overwhelming love for me.
Felix's right arm had been injured. I asked whether it was serious, but he merely smiled and signaled something to me.
He couldn't speak. Someone told me that secret guards had no right to speak.
Felix had beautiful handwriting, though. He wrote my name on countless pieces of paper.
As the seasons passed, I finally came of age. My parents wanted me to marry the crown prince, but I was unwilling. I went to Felix and tugged on his sleeve, begging him to take me away.
He looked at me for a long time before nodding.
