Roxanne stared at the photo of the pendant. It seemed Sebastian hadn't lied—he had gotten it back.
But she didn't know how he managed to retrieve it. She couldn't imagine Liana handing it over so easily.
She texted him. "Thanks. Keep it safe for me until I'm back."
"Got it."
But the reply didn't come from Sebastian. Nicholas was the one answering her messages now.
He sat beside Sebastian, who was lying pale and exhausted in a hospital bed, still hooked up to an IV drip. He didn't even have the energy to respond to Roxanne's messages himself.
He had spent over two hours alone in the freezing, murky water, digging through layers of muck until he finally found the pendant buried in the sludge.
