Tristan's throat tightened. "Back then, that five million dollars in angel funding..."
He paused, but the urgency still slipped through in his tone. "You put that money in because you believed in my project, right?"
Dorian laughed on the other end. "Tristan, even now, you're still trying to claim you built your company on your own?"
"I just want to confirm—"
"Confirm what?" Dorian cut in.
"Confirm whether you actually made it on your own? Back then, I had three investment managers look at your crappy project. All three of them said the same thing—it wouldn't survive three years. If Ms. Aiken hadn't come to me herself, do you really think I would've invested?"
"She came to you... to just introduce Godfrey Group," Tristan said hoarsely. "You still made the call. You invested because you saw potential in the project—"
"Potential?" Dorian laughed again. "No, Tristan. What I saw was Ms. Aiken kneeling outside her father's study!"
"What are you talking about?"
"She never told you?"
