The gallery was abuzz with activity that morning. New artwork had arrived, and we were in the midst of setting up a new exhibit. I was bustling around, directing the staff, when a sharp pain suddenly pierced my lower abdomen. I paused, gripping the edge of a table to steady myself.
"Are you okay, Lily?" one of the staff members, Sarah, asked, her face etched with concern.
"I'm fine," I lied, waving her off. "Just a little tired, that's all."
But the pain didn't subside. If anything, it grew more intense. I excused myself and hurried to my office, closing the door behind me. I sank into my chair, breathing deeply and trying to calm the panic rising within me. I was six months pregnant, and any unusual pain was terrifying.
