Chapter 329
"Upstairs, there's stomach medicine," Maverick announced.
The silence that followed was perhaps due to the awkardness Yen Liang felt from his command. She helped him upstairs without sending a word.
When they reached the elevator, Maverick was in such pain that he could barely stand.
Yen Liang could hardly support him with one hand, and by the end, nearly half of Maverick's body had slumped against her.
At this close proximity, Maverick's breath grazed Yen Liang's skin, making her want to push him away.
But then...
Yen Liang thought to herself: After all, I'm just supporting him, letting him lean on me. It simply indicates that I am a person of empathy, a kind person.
All about helping others for the sheer joy of it. Nothing more, nothing less.
With that thought, Yen Liang felt much better.
Maverick lived on the 18th floor of the hotel, the top floor.
Yen Liang helped Maverick out of the elevator. Initially, she hadn't planned to help him into his room, but Maverick was in such a terrible state. When Yen Liang released her grip on him at the doorway, he couldn't even balance himself to open the door.
Finally, Yen Liang helped him swipe the room card open.
"Help me find the medicine," requested Maverick.
Yen Liang hesitated for a moment, but entered in the end.
She wasn't able to find the stomach medicine, but she did find the pain relief medicine.
The pain must be real. Maverick swallowed the pill directly without even a sip of water.
After taking the medicine, he sat on the sofa, breathing heavily.
As Giselle started walking towards the exit, Maverick spoke up after a few steps. He said, "Pour me a cup of hot water."
It seemed like he was really treating her like a small aide.
Yet with no choice as she needed help, she stopped and turned back around. She reached the bar to gather a glass, and then headed towards the water dispenser.
She stood in front of the water dispenser, her back turned towards Maverick.
Bending her head, she was very careful when filling the water alternating between the hot and cold, to prepare a warm cup for Maverick to soothe his stomach.
As Giselle turned around, she noticed Maverick staring at her without blinking. His gaze was devoid of any recognizable emotion or warmth. His focus was keen which made it seem oddly strange.
Feeling a bit perturbed, Giselle pressed her lips together and handed him the glass, "Drink this."
Maverick received the glass and drank it rapidly.
Remembering her main purpose, Giselle asked, "Mr. Hyland, can I discuss our project at Bo's corporation tomorrow?"
Having been helped, it was indeed hard to refuse. Maverick nodded in agreement.
Giselle said, "You take care of your health. I should head out now."
Before she could even turn her back and leave, Maverick passed the empty cup back to her, "Pour me another glass."
"..."
Thinking about discussing the project seriously tomorrow, Giselle certainly wouldn't refuse such a small matter.
She takes the water cup, then goes to the water dispenser.
As she adjusts the water temperature and is about to turn around, she feels a sudden tightness around her waist.
Maverick reaches out from behind and wraps his arms around Giselle's waist, pulling her firmly into his embrace.
He has indeed drunk quite a bit tonight. The strong scent of alcohol emanates from him as he nuzzles Giselle's ear. "Stay with me tonight," he whispers.
As their skin touch, Giselle shivers instantly. Her hand trembles, causing the water cup to spill onto the floor.
With a crisp 'pop' noise.
Maverick tightens his grip on Giselle's waist and with a swift movement, lifts her onto the small bar beside the water dispenser.
Now they are face to face.
Snapping out of her surprise, Giselle exclaims, "Maverick, what are you doing?"
She tries to jump down, but his strong grip on her wrist stops her from moving. He firmly secures Giselle's legs around his body, making sure she cannot move, and slightly loosens his grip on her wrist.
"Giselle, let's talk," he proposes.
Looking at her current embarrassing position, Giselle is completely embarrassed.
"Maverick, we are divorced. Stop behaving shamelessly," she retorts.
Her tone was both rushed and fierce.
Bao Yinmo looked at her calmly, "You want the Yan Clan, don't you?"
Giselle glared at him, not understanding how he could be so calm while talking to her in such a manner.
"I can help you."
Bao Yinmo reached out, tucking a loose hair behind Giselle's ear. "Being with me is better than socializing outside, catering to others with wine."
"Being with you?"
Giselle seemed not to understand.
Looking at her earnestly, Bao Yinmo said, "Being with me, if you want the Yan Clan or anything else, I can help you."
Giselle was silent for two minutes. She was confident that she had heard him correctly.
"Bao Yinmo," she reminded him, "Don't forget, you were the one who insisted on divorcing me."
Now, he wanted her back.
Was he playing her?!!
"This is a different matter," Bao Yinmo lightly stroked Giselle's cheek with his finger and said faintly, "You may not be Mrs. Bao, but you can be my woman."
Facing Bao Yinmo, Giselle paused for a moment before breaking into a derisive smirk. "Are you proposing to keep me?"
There was a moment of silence in the air——
After a good while, Giselle saw Maverick Mo pulling a smile on his lips, "You're not wrong to say that." He was looking at Giselle, "It's a great deal, you only need to accompany me, and I can give you everything you want, you should be willing to, after all, that's how you approached me in the first place."
Giselle's fingers slowly tightened, and this time, she finally let out a laugh. If she hadn't held it in, she might have even laughed to the point of tears. After laughing, she tilted her head to look at Maverick Mo, a mockery hiding in her eyes. Her voice was clear and taunting, with every word punctuated, "But what can I do, what I least want now is you."
The expression on Maverick Mo's face turned cold instantly.
Yet, Giselle was worried he didn't hear properly and leaned in closer, "Maverick Mo, out of everything in this world, what I least want is you."
She enunciated that last sentence especially tightly.
Maverick Mo's countenance slowly chilled until it was frosty. He stared intently at Giselle, watching the sneer on her face. She despised him.
She was despising him!
Maverick Mo felt a sting in his heart. A cold aura grew from the soles of his feet, quickly spreading throughout his body. He tightened his grip, even his breathing became constrained.
"Say that again?" He gritted his teeth, sounding quite menacing.
With lips painted a tantalizing red, Giselle's expression held a sneer that she did not bother to hide, "What I least want is... Mmm~"
Maverick Mo held Giselle's head and kissed her forcefully.
Giselle struggled with all her might, putting all her strength in a tug of war with Maverick Mo, making the kiss fierce...
Maverick Mo felt fear. He felt like he was hanging high in the air, likely to fall and shatter into pieces, and only by holding on to Giselle did he have a sliver of survival.
Giselle bit him. The taste of the blood spread between their lips, but he did not retreat, not even a bit. It wasn't until Giselle decided to bite herself, Maverick Mo finally let go of her with a firm grip on her jaw.
"No biting!"
"Slap—"
Giselle used all her strength to mercilessly slap Maverick. The corners of her eyes were resounding red, her breath was shaky, her body trembling. Immediately after, she wiped her lips forcefully, as if they were tainted with some atrocious germ.
Maverick watched, his pupils gradually turning blood-red.
"Do I disgust you so much?"
The voice, heavy and interrogative, seemed to be wrung out from his chest.
Giselle took a deep breath, she looked at Maverick, bluntly answering, "Yes!"
Just one word, its lethality rivaled thousands of troops.
Maverick's hands, which were on either side of Giselle, suddenly loosened. Giselle took the opportunity to jump down. Her eyes stung to the extreme, couldn't hold back anymore. She wiped it once and then quickly ran towards the exit.
Before she could get out, her cell phone was ringing in the room.
