Chapter 331
"Maverick, I look down on you for behaving like this,"
Giselle's words utterly crushed Maverick, making him retract his hand and sit on the edge of the bed.
Giselle looked at his back, propped herself up with her hand, and instead of sitting up right away, she asked from behind Maverick, "Don't you want it anymore?"
"Get out!"
She could not see Maverick's expression, only heard his deep voice.
Giselle got up and adjusted her clothes.
Said, "Maverick, if you do this again next time, I would directly call the police."
Giselle left.
As she left, it seemed as though she took something with her.
Maverick felt as if he was truly going insane, confronted by Giselle, his resentment and desire were intertwined.
His feelings were a tangled mess, ensnaring him, not allowing him to extricate himself…
…
Giselle exited the hotel and hailed a car.
The car drove to Jinjiang Residence, after alighting from the car, she didn't expect Nolan was still waiting downstairs.
Upon seeing her, Nolan immediately approached.
"Did he do anything to you?"
He swept his gaze up and down at Giselle, as if inspecting if there were any marks on her.
"What can he do to me?"
Giselle said with no distinct emotion.
Nolan furrowed his brows, "You shouldn't meet him anymore."
It was only when he hung up the call that he remembered why the voice was familiar. It belonged to Maverick, Giselle's ex-husband.
"Nolan, there are some things I want to make clear."
Giselle noticed the deep interest Nolan was showing towards her. So she decided to clarify things. "I'm not interested in starting a new relationship, and I'm not interested in you. Don't waste your time on me."
Nolan remained silent after hearing her words. After a while, he finally spoke, "Big Sister, there's something wrong with your current state."
Giselle said, "I'm fine now."
Nolan shook his head, "Because of the emotional harm you've suffered before, you're trying to suppress all your feelings. This is a form of extreme emotional disorder."
"Big Sister," he said, "why not give yourself a chance? Even if you feel that you would not develop feelings for anyone else, it doesn't mean you should reject being pursued. It's a wonderful process, why not enjoy it?"
"You get flowers, invitations for meals, efforts to make you happy, and someone who's there for you at any moment without asking for anything in return. Isn't that nice? Moreover, this person is tall and handsome. Even if you're not into him, it does no harm to feast your eyes on him once in a while. Considering the eye-soothing benefits, you shouldn't decline."
Nolan, with an earnest demeanor, tried to influence Giselle's mindset. After his spiel, he sensed that Giselle might need more time to absorb it all. "I can tell you're not in a good state right now," he finally said. "Take some time to rest, and we can talk more about this next time."
...
Giselle went upstairs, and the moment she closed the door, she squatted on the ground.
She burrowed her head between her legs and stayed like that for a while.
She didn’t cry, but she felt a terrible sadness in her heart.
An indescribable sadness.
She felt that she probably understood what Maverick meant when he said he had bought her.
In his eyes, Giselle was perhaps just someone who, given enough chips, would do as he wished.
Could she blame him?
Giselle found herself more to blame.
The reason she appeared cheap in Maverick's eyes wasn’t it her own doing?
Who told her to follow him back then, just to achieve her goal?
She didn't blame him for looking down on her.
Giselle stood up and moved to her room, opening a drawer. The drawer was filled with a few boxes of medicine from Frystonia. She bought extra boxes when she returned, secretly bringing them along.
After taking a pill, she moved to the bathroom.
That night, the medicine was a great help – Giselle had a fairly good sleep.
The next day, she went to work and sought out Harrison. She said, "I can't handle Bo’s project."
Harrison was quite surprised, "This morning, someone from Bo's specifically came to sign a contract, saying that you and Rick arranged it."
Giselle stunned for a moment, then wanted to laugh slightly.
Is this a compensation?
Harrison sensed something, "Did something happen between you and Rick?"
"Nothing." Giselle responded, "It's good since they signed."
Harrison nodded, then looked at Giselle, "Did you not sleep well last night?" he asked, "Your dark circles are very heavy. You must be tired from dealing with the project these days, go back and rest well."
Harrison gave himself a holiday, and Giselle was of course delighted. However, after she agreed, Harrison said, "Come back to Yan's house for dinner tonight. We must have a nice family meal."
"I won't go."
Giselle directly refused.
"Giselle, have you forgotten what day it is today?" Harrison lowered his stance, "Today is Dad's birthday. Dad doesn't ask for much, he just wants a family dinner. Is that alright?"
In the end, Giselle agreed.
Aside from everything else, now that Harrison treats her as his daughter, for Yan’s sake, she had to treat him like a father.
After leaving the company, Giselle went to Blossom Avenue.
Blossom Avenue was now on track, booming, and the operation was very mature, Giselle didn't have to worry about anything.
She just felt that she hadn't been there for a while.
After spending some time in Blossom Avenue, Giselle went to the largest mall in the Imperial City.
It was Harrison's birthday. No doubt, Gloria definitely had prepared a gift for him. She couldn't lose out on the chance of being a thoughtful daughter as well.
She bought Harrison a belt, a crocodile skin one from a certain luxury brand.
She only cared about the price, not much concerned about the style, so she picked quickly and paid quickly.
In her hurried trip, she didn't expect to run into an acquaintance.
Her ex-mother-in-law, Mother Bo.
Mother Bo was evidently taken aback at running into Giselle here, and she was startled.
The two met at the mall entrance, one coming in and the other leaving. Being face to face now was a bit awkward.
Mother Bo noticed the shopping bag in Giselle's hand. This brand only had a men's shop in this mall.
Was she buying a gift for a man?
Mother Bo frowned slightly.
Giselle didn't pay much attention to Mother Bo. After politely calling out 'Auntie', she left.
Mother Bo, however, wasn't so indifferent. Until today, she didn't even know that Giselle had returned to the country.
Now, seeing Giselle holding a men's brand shopping bag, she was a bit worried and immediately called Maverick Mo.
"Do you know Giselle has returned to the country?"
There, Maverick responded indifferently, "I know."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Bo's mother couldn't help questioning. She was worried that Maverick would repeat the hidden marriage scenario with Giselle.
After all, as a parent, they knew how their son had been during this half year.
He hasn't moved on!!!
Now that Giselle has returned to the country, she didn't believe that Maverick could remain calm.
"Are you back with her?"
There was a long silence on Maverick's end. Just as Bo's mother thought she had guessed correctly, the phone emitted two cold words, "No."
But given the previous pause, Bo's mother didn't believe him at all.
"Do you think I'm still as gullible as I was before? Dare you say, what Giselle just bought, it wasn't for you?"
"What did she buy?"
"She bought something," Bo's mother said, "I don't know what it is, but it was bought for a man."
Suddenly, there was no sound on the other end of the phone.
Even through the screen, Bo's mother could feel the heavy silence, "Is it really not for you?"
