Chapter 335
——Eighteen kept wanting to ask Giselle about his wrist injury.
But she hesitated to ask.
In the end....she pretended not to see it, she could tell that Giselle didn't want anyone to know, otherwise he wouldn't cover it up with a watch.
That night, Giselle drove Eighteen home. Before going home, Eighteen had sent someone a message.
[I've had too much to drink. Could you pick me up?]
The response she received was, [I can't get away. Give me your address and I'll get you a car.]
After that, she didn't reply anymore.
All the way to the bottom of the apartment building, before Eighteen got off the car, she couldn't help but ask Giselle, "Are your sister and Yan Ge planning to develop a relationship?"
Her unexpected question caught Giselle’s attention. Realizing this, Eighteen hurried to explain, "I didn't mean anything else, Yan Ge is my boss, right? I've just noticed that he's been dating your sister quite frequently these days. Your sister also came to this party, just in case she becomes my future boss, I could take this opportunity to please her, couldn't I?"
After saying this, she gave Giselle a sincere smile.
However, her deliberate acting made it seem all the more suspicious.
Giselle had a vague guess in his heart, but he wasn't sure. He just intended to remind Eighteen, "Andrew has been chasing after Gloria for many years, I don't know if they will develop a relationship, but from what I knew of Andrew before, as long as Gloria is willing to be with him, he would definitely not refuse." After hearing this, Eighteen laughed, it wasn't very pleasant to look at, "In that case...it seems I have to start pleasing her first."
After she finished speaking, she got out of the car. As she was leaving, Giselle called her and said, "Whoever you like, don't like Andrew." Eighteen reacted strongly as if her thoughts had been seen through, shaking her head, "I wouldn’t like him."
After saying this, she hurriedly ran off.
The car was driven by a chauffeur. Once Eighteen left, he turned the car around. Eighteen sighed in relief as she watched the car leave, she was really afraid that Giselle would interrogate her.
She didn't expect that as soon as she turned her head, she would directly meet a pair of pitch-black, displeased eyes.
....
The following day, Giselle ended her several days off and went to work.
She naturally ran into Gloria, whose gaze on her was clearly showing her poisonous disdain, not in the least concealed.
Giselle didn't bother to pay her any mind.
She was involved with the Hyland Group's project, which was launched today. Harrison specially went to the construction site to underline the importance and he brought Giselle along with him.
This plot of land of the Hyland Group, was located in a development area to the west of the imperial city, covering a vast area, intended for building townhouses.
On the first day of construction, there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
In such a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Hyland Group didn't need any important figures to attend, only the project manager was enough.
However, it was different for the Yan Corporation.
The president himself attended the event, even had to bow and scrape to the project manager.
The disparity in power was plain to see.
It was deep autumn in the imperial city, and it happened to be windy today.
When Giselle set off, she was wearing a suit with an additional coat on the outside, but as it seemed impolite to wear so much upon getting out of the car, she took it off.
So standing outside with a group of people at this time, she felt somewhat shivery in the cold.
Strangely enough, the timing for the ribbon-cutting had been calculated.
In launching a construction site, auspiciousness was highly prized. 11:55.
Not a minute earlier, not a minute later.
And now, when Giselle checked the time, it was only 11:05, which meant that she would have to shiver in the cold wind for another fifty minutes.
Harrison, leading her and several members of the Hawk family, was making polite conversation with the project in-charge from the Hyland family.
Just as they were chatting, someone suddenly ran up to the project manager and said, "Manager He, Mr. Hyland has arrived."
Even Manager He himself hadn't expected that the commencement of a construction site could surprisingly summon Mr. Hyland in person, he asked, "Really?"
The messenger nodded hastily, "He came with Assistant Chen and they're in the lounge."
Upon hearing this, Manager He didn't even have the time to say a word to the Hawk family before he rushed towards the lounge, leaving the Hawk family standing awkwardly in place.
"How came Rick is here?" Harrison was somewhat skeptical. "Did he know you were coming and that's why he is here?" He asked Giselle.
Giselle simply replied, "No."
No matter the reason Maverick Mo had come, she was certain it wasn't because of her.
Harrison could tell that Giselle was now resisting anything related to Maverick Mo. He shook his head and sighed, without uttering a word.
Yet, he stood in a man's shoes.
Starting from the moment Maverick asked to switch the negotiator, Giselle felt that Maverick still had lingering feelings for her.
Actually, whether as a father or the CEO of Yan Corporation, Harrison wished Giselle and Maverick could get back together.
Not to mention anything else, just Maverick's status and family background, no one in Finceland could compete.
Soon, Manager He came out of the lounge, first glanced at Giselle, then turned to Harrison and said, "Sir Yan, it's still early, let's wait in the lounge. It's too cold out here."
Harrison obviously didn't refuse, leading several people from the Yan clan to the lounge.
Giselle didn't want to go in, but Harrison said, "You are representing the Hawk family now, this is working hours, don't bring your personal feelings into it."
Then, Giselle followed in.
This was her first meeting with Maverick since that night.
Across a crowd of people.
Ironically, when she was looking at him, he was also looking at her.
Bewildering.
But both of them quickly shifted their gaze. In the lounge, everyone wanted to chat with Maverick, except for Giselle, who stood far away, as if she didn't know them.
Finally, it was time for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
During the ribbon cutting, Maverick was there too. He was placed in seat C. Giselle originally stood very far away, but at the last moment, someone suddenly pushed her next to Maverick.
As the confetti fell, Manager He announced, "I have arranged a restaurant. Let's all go for dinner, no one present can be absent."
Giselle frowned.
"Don't you want to go?"
The voice of Maverick came out of nowhere beside her, devoid of any warmth.
Giselle instinctively turned to look at him following his voice. Maverick lowered his gaze, resting it on her face, "Is it that you don't want to, or you don't dare to?"
Giselle frowned again, "Maverick..."
"We are already divorced."
Before she could respond, Maverick cut her off, following it up with a cold snort, "There's no need for you to remind me."
But what did that mean?
Giselle lowered her voice, "Are you just being relentlessly annoying?"
Why else would he be constantly doing these strange things? Giselle truly didn't believe that a project manager would dare to say that not one person could be missing from the scene without Maverick's approval.
After all, Maverick was there.
Maverick kept a poker face, "Don't overthink it. The Hyland family is just playing the part of a host."
So, she was just over-imagining things again???
Though others didn't hear their conversation, Judd, standing nearby, heard every bit of it.
He shook his head helplessly.
Even he knew why Mr. Hyland, today, would skip the company meeting and come to the construction site.
It was nothing more than... Unable to resist his heart's desire to see Ms. Hawk, yet unable to find any other opportunity.
