I knocked on the CEO’s office door, and before long, William’s gentle voice came from inside. “Come in.”
I took a deep breath, turned the door handle, and stood still in front of his desk.
“CEO Caldwell.”
William looked up at me, a frown forming on his face. “Why are you still calling me that so formally?”
I was taken aback. “I… I thought, in the company, we have a superior-subordinate relationship, so it’s only proper to call you CEO Caldwell, right?”
“You can make an exception. Call me William anytime,” he said, rubbing his forehead. “I want to be able to be with you without any formalities, without worrying about such things.”
I looked at him, noticing the tiredness in his eyes, and spoke softly. “I understand, William.”
To be honest, I felt a pang of sympathy for him. He had built this company from the ground up, single-handedly turning it into the powerful entity it was today. I only joined the company when it was already fairly well-known.
