Chapter 41
On Monday morning, I woke up early, washed up, and changed out of my hospital gown. After breakfast, I sat in my room, waiting for Alexander to arrive.
I waited there all morning.
Finally, in the afternoon, Alexander came to the hospital.
"Sorry, something came up this morning," he said.
I smiled and shook my head, standing up to walk toward the door. "It's fine. It's not too late."
Seeing how eager I was, Alexander’s brow furrowed slightly, as if dissatisfied. "Are you happy about our divorce?"
My heart ached sharply, but I kept my smile in place. "Yes, I’m happy. Finally, I’ll be free."
Free.
The word left my lips, and it felt like it wasn’t just about him or our marriage. I’d never expressed my inner pain so calmly before.
Alexander’s expression darkened. "Congratulations," he said, his tone faint.
"Let’s go," I said, turning to look at him.
"Mm." He nodded and turned, opening the door.
