I nodded and headed back to the conference room, my mind racing. How was I supposed to stay conscious of patterns I didn't even realize I was falling into? How could I control instincts that were apparently hardwired into my muscle memory?
When we reentered the room, the Hartwell team was seated again, and I could immediately tell from their postures that they'd made a decision.
"We'll accept your offer," Marcus said without preamble. "With one additional provision—we want quarterly reviews to ensure the promises you've made are being kept. Those reviews to be conducted by an independent third party of our choosing."
It was a reasonable request, actually. A way for them to maintain some oversight and ensure we weren't violating the spirit of the agreement even if we honored the letter.
