I went downstairs and found Logan in the kitchen, sipping his coffee and flipping through a folder. His tie was half-done, and his hair looked like he’d just run his fingers through it a few times. He looked up when he saw me, eyes immediately narrowing.
“What’s wrong?”
I didn’t waste time. “Jordan has a fever. Sebastian called. He said it’s high, and the doctors don’t know what’s causing it.”
Logan stood instantly, setting his coffee down. “I’ll drive you.”
“No,” I said quickly, stepping back. “You don’t have to. I’ll manage.”
“Haley,” he said, voice firm but kind, “You don’t have to do this alone.”
“It’s not that,” I replied, wrapping my arms around myself. “It’s just… I can’t show up there with you. That will only make things more complicated.”
He looked at me for a moment, then nodded slowly. “Alright. I’ll have my driver take you. He’s already out front.”
“Thank you,” I whispered.
Logan reached into his coat and pulled out a scarf. “It’s cold. You forgot yours.”
