Manfred's down jacket shielded him from the wind and snow.
From a distance, Kemp watched with furrowed brows, his concern growing. Manfred had been acting strangely lately. He could have moved out of this shabby courtyard long ago but had chosen not to.
Moreover, the clothes Manfred wore were unfamiliar to Kemp. They weren't the usual silk or cotton garments but were incredibly warm. There were also books and other rare items, things Kemp had never seen before.
A few days ago, his curiosity got the best of him, and he finally asked Manfred. It turned out that these things had been gifted to him by someone who had helped him in secret before Kemp's arrival.
Without that help, Manfred might not have made it to the present. Kemp speculated that Manfred had stayed in this place because of that person.
However, the mysterious figure had not appeared for nearly a month, and they seemed unlikely to reappear. Continuing to wait wasn't a sustainable option.
