“Why haven’t you gone to the King about this? He’s a fair man, Monica. He would never turn your mother into a rogue. He would help you; he would—”
“I can’t risk it,” Monica said, standing to her feet and spinning around to face me; I could see the fire in her eyes, but there was also fear in them. She was terrified about the outcome of her mother if she went against Jenna. I knew that Jenna had connections and if she wanted something, she would get it. She would make sure that Monica’s mother never saw the light of day.
I could no longer blame her for her part in this; it was all Jenna’s manipulation. Monica was also a victim, and she got hurt in the process of all of this. My heart ached for this young girl.
