Later, Roy came by with food. She barely eats, after one or two small bites, she set it down again. The food tasted like nothing in her mouth. Her stomach twisted, not from nausea, but from the storm of emotions eating her from inside. She didn’t say a single word to anyone.
David watched her quietly from the side. The silence was killing him. He wanted to say something, anything but every time he looked at her face, he couldn’t find the words.
Later in the evening, he finally said, “I’ll be outside. If you need anything… just call me, okay?”
She didn’t answer. Didn’t even look at him. He waited, hoping she might at least glance his way, but she stayed still, eyes fixed on nothing. So, with a heavy sigh, David turned and walked out.
