She shoved him away, her palms flat against his chest. “Don’t touch me,” she hissed under her breath.
David didn’t look fazed. If anything, there was a flicker of something dangerous in his eyes—possession, arrogance, something she’d seen too many times before.
Without another word, she spun around and hailed the first cab that screeched to a halt. Her fingers trembled as she yanked open the door and slid inside.
“Hotel.....” she gave the name quickly, barely glancing at the driver.
She caught a glimpse of David in the side mirror, walking to his own car, calm as if nothing had happened. Of course he was following her. Of course he wouldn’t let her just walk away.
The entire ride, she sat stiff, staring out the window at the blur of streetlights. Her reflection in the glass looked pale, tired… angry. Why now? Why this sudden interference in her life when he had left her to rot before?
