Chapter 24
When Jasmine opened the door and walked into Niall's ward, he was staring out the window in a gaze. From the side, his face looked pale and gaunt in the morning light.
"Sit down," he said hoarsely, pointing to the chair by his bedside.
The two of them sat in silence for a moment. Outside the window, the leaves of the desert poplars could be heard rustling in the Okobi Desert wind.
"Ever since the abduction incident, I actually always have nightmares of you lying in a pool of blood," Niall said suddenly. "It's only when I wake up and see you sleeping quietly next to me that I feel like I can breathe again."
It was the first time she was hearing this from him. It turned out that he had his own struggles behind his cold and immovable exterior.
"Unfortunately, I was too much of an idiot," he continued, turning to look at her. "I thought that keeping you by my side was just a means of making things up to you."
Jasmine handed him a glass of warm water. "It's all in the past now."
