At some point, Julian realized he no longer fit into their world. In the beginning, he was just a step away from winning Ivy back, but the gap between them seemed so big now.
Julian bit his lip and turned to leave. Before exiting, he allowed himself one last look at the officiant and the couple. His heart ached miserably. After drawing several deep breaths, he managed to keep himself from turning back. His legs felt so heavy, as if every step was an effort against gravity.
The piano music played behind him, the romantic melody painting a picture of happiness and new beginnings. However, Julian was not part of the story. He had lost, and it was hard to give his blessings. The thought of Ivy with another man was unbearable.
Powerless and deeply miserable, Julian watched as Ivy exchanged rings and vows with Lucas. On the drive back to Joburg City, Julian felt hollow and empty, as if only his body was going through the motions.
