OLIVIA’S POV
I should’ve known my peace wouldn’t last.
It had barely been a few days of solace—waking to my adoptive mother’s sweet voice instead of screams in my head, to James’s warm concern instead of cold silences and mockery from the maids, and to the hope that maybe—just maybe—I could start over with what remained of my broken heart and build a peaceful life.
But apparently, even that was too much to ask.
The knock on the door still echoed in my ears when I saw her. Evelyn. Dressed like she was walking a damn runway. A pristine cream coat draped over her shoulders, her makeup flawless, not a strand of hair out of place. She looked every bit the Luna she so desperately wanted to be.
