OLIVIA’S POV
When I opened my eyes, the sterile scent of antiseptic filled my lungs. A soft beeping echoed nearby, and warm sunlight filtered through gauzy curtains. I was alive—but where?
My gaze darted around until I saw two familiar silhouettes.
James. And... Derek?
What’s Derek doing here?
They were seated at my bedside, both visibly relieved the moment I stirred. James leaned over, his eyes red-rimmed from sleeplessness. “You scared the hell out of us,” he said hoarsely.
Derek offered a gentle smile, one that didn’t ask anything of me. “Welcome back.”
I blinked, trying to speak, but the words wouldn’t come. James gripped my hand tightly, whispering, “It was Derek. He found you. He carried you out before the building collapsed.”
Tears stung my eyes.
“Thank you.” I managed to reply.
I had survived.
But Dominic hadn’t saved me. He’d chosen Evelyn. Again.
The pain hit sharper than any physical wound. But that wasn’t the only shock awaiting me.
I heard her.
My wolf.
She was back.
