With everyone suddenly gone, Elaine felt kind of awkward, especially now that she had to be alone with Marcus.
But she guessed she should be glad that Ethan wasn't around—otherwise he might've blown a fuse right then and there.
Not that it would stay a secret for long. He'd probably find out soon enough, maybe even within the next few minutes, and then that phone call was inevitable.
Marcus strolled up to Elaine, way too close for comfort, his tone clearly annoyed. "Why'd you help him?"
There was no need to ask who "him" was. Elaine answered honestly, "Yeah, he did threaten me, but blacklisting him for good? That feels a bit much."
"Too much?" Marcus's expression darkened, eyes frosty. "He could've hit on anyone, but he had to pick you."
"He crossed a line. Actions come with consequences."
His stance couldn't be clearer.
Elaine hesitated, trying softly, "Marcus, you're not seriously planning to blacklist him, right?"
"There's nothing to negotiate here," Marcus shot back, firm and final
