Just like the man said, business here was dead. The inn where Elaine was staying didn't have a single other guest—she had the whole place to herself, so she picked any room she liked.
She chose an upstairs room. The window opened wide to a scenic view of nature—breathtaking and peaceful.
She took a few deep breaths like she was soaking up some magical life extension rays.
"This place is way too beautiful to turn into a construction site," Elaine muttered to herself again, a bit regretfully.
After admiring the view, she figured it was about time to report in to her boss.
The cell signal was basically non-existent. After some trial and error, she climbed up to the rooftop and finally got a little reception. She quickly called Ethan.
Ethan had been waiting. He'd already tried calling her several times but couldn't get through. Given the location, no signal wasn't exactly shocking, but he couldn't help wondering where Marcus had gotten off to, and whether he'd caught up with Elaine yet.
