Ethan looked all pitiful and said, "Don't be so stingy, okay?"
Elaine remembered the times they used to argue playfully—it wasn't all bad. But thanks to the awful impression he left on Audrey, it messed things up for Elaine too. So yeah, she couldn't help but still feel annoyed at him.
Seeing that she wasn't responding, Ethan patted his chest a bit too theatrically and insisted, "From now on, we're just friends. Anything you need, I've got your back."
Elaine rolled her eyes and replied sharply, "You're clearly drunk. Go home and sleep it off."
Ethan frowned, not giving up. "Nah, I'm good. Still gotta go back and outdrink the rest of them."
All Elaine could give him was a really forced smile. She didn't even bother replying.
Out of nowhere, a thought hit her hard. "Wait, what time is it now?"
Asking Ethan was pointless. Without another word, Elaine rushed back toward the private room. On the way, she glanced at the big clock hanging in the restaurant. Crap, it was already past 8:30.
