Evan Brooks had just calmed himself down, and now this? All his worries had been for nothing? He clenched his jaw, forcing himself not to explode right then and there. On a normal day, he’d have chewed the guy out and told him to get lost.
The subordinate seemed to realize he’d said the wrong thing and ducked his head. “Boss, what should we do now?”
“What else? Go get him back!” Evan snapped, his voice spitting fire.
“Should we just straight-up ask him to hand the kid over?” the guy asked, clearly not thinking this through.
Evan shot him a glare sharp enough to kill. “Are you out of your mind? Of course not.”
His brain was already spinning, trying to figure out how to retrieve the person without making a bigger mess. He needed a smart plan—and fast.
After a quick pause, he asked, “Track down Joseph Grant. Find out where he is.”
