Chapter 99
Elaine grabbed her purse right away, but before she could take a step, her stomach let out a loud growl—like, really loud.
She usually ate by 6:30 at home no matter what. Now it was almost 7:30. Of course her stomach was upset.
"Hungry?" Marcus asked, mostly just out of politeness.
Elaine answered truthfully, "You said no need to eat dinner, so I kinda... didn't."
Marcus didn't respond—not that he needed to. That question of his was clearly just to be polite.
He drove out of the underground garage with practiced ease. A few minutes later, they passed by a busy downtown stretch.
Elaine usually avoided this road since it was always jammed at night. There was a mall here, surrounded by restaurants and shops, packed with people after dark.
Suddenly, Marcus made a turn and stopped in front of a restaurant. Elaine blinked. "Not going home for dinner?"
"You think you can wait that long?" Marcus shot back.
Elaine pressed her hand on her belly and admitted, "The sooner the better, obviously."
