Aubert offered a faint smile instead of explaining why Maeve couldn't go home.
Whatever Sergio instructed, they simply complied—there was no point in asking why.
Reluctantly, Maeve entered the lounge, and pulled out the homework she hadn't touched for three days.
Looking at the pile of homework, Maeve felt her head throb.
It was bad enough being micromanaged by her teachers at school. Now even a stranger was bossing her around?

An hour crawled by. Maeve had managed to finish an entire test paper, yet Sergio showed no sign of wrapping up his meeting.
She glanced at her watch—8:00 pm.
Outside, the sky was already dark.
"When is Mr. Brooks planning to finish his meeting? I need to go home," Maeve asked.
Aubert stepped forward with a calm smile and set a takeout bag in front of her.
"This is the meal Mr. Brooks ordered for you. If you're hungry, you can have something to eat."
Maeve opened the bag to find all her favorite dishes inside.
