When no response came from inside the room, Tessa frowned. She was about to open the door when Maeve emerged with an impassive expression.
Tessa knew Maeve was upset with her, so she didn't offer any excuses. Instead, she simply said, "Mr. Larson prepared breakfast for you."

As Maeve followed Tessa downstairs, she felt unsteady on her feet. In the hall, she saw Liam seated at a long table.
There were only two dishes—a plate of scrambled eggs and toast in front of Liam and a covered dish at Maeve's place.
