"Mrs. Spencer, please go upstairs." The housekeeper stepped forward to lead Maeve upstairs.
Maeve glanced at her and said, "I've been cooped up indoors all day. I'm about to go stir-crazy. I just want to get some fresh air in the garden. Is that too much to ask?"
"Well, I suppose... it's not too much to ask..." The housekeeper was hesitant. Liam hadn't given any orders about letting Maeve outside.
"As long as it's not too much trouble, I'll just take a short walk. You guys don't have to follow me."
"But Mrs. Spencer—"
The housekeeper tried to protest, but Maeve had already briskly walked to the door as if she anticipated the housekeeper would have no choice but to relent.
Outside, the patrolling guards were momentarily taken aback when they saw Maeve. She was still dressed in her pajamas as she strolled with her hands clasped behind her back.
She was even humming a tune as she headed toward the garden—looking as relaxed as if she were in her own backyard.
