Chapter 26
A soothing, inviting scent of a home-cooked meal enveloped Reyna, instantly dispelling the fatigue and chill that had clung to her.
Maxwell stood in the doorway. His typically cold face was now showing warmth, like a reliable man waiting at home. "You're back. Do you want to eat together—"
But before he could finish, his deep gaze landed on the stark white bandage wrapped around her arm. His brows furrowed instantly.
"What happened?" His voice was deep and commanding.
"Just a little accident on the way. Bumped into something," Reyna replied lightly, brushing it off as nothing.
However, Maxwell was not so easily misled. He took a long stride toward her. As he stopped in front of her, his tall frame cast a shadow over her, radiating a steady, reassuring presence.
He raised his hand, his long fingers gently brushing the rough edge of the bandage. His movements were careful, as if she were a fragile treasure that could break easily. "You went to see Nathan? Did he do this to you?"
