Reyna appraised him with an odd look. "Mr. Hamilton, last I checked, there are only two units on this floor, and we're the only two residents. No one else is around, so why don't you cut to the chase?"
In other words, she wanted him to drop the act.
Maxwell's gaze darkened, and he couldn't help the frustration that seized him. Reyna could stand to be a little nicer.
"What, did you think I'd get up to any funny business? Is that why you're so on guard around me? Don't worry—I'm a gentleman. Even if I wanted to do something to you, it'd be out in the open."
Reyna eyed him speechlessly.
The air around them grew still. When Maxwell showed no signs of leaving, Reyna frowned and asked, "Is there anything else you'd like to add to this sparkling conversation?"
"Yes," Maxwell replied almost instinctively, but his mind went blank immediately after that.
