Jonathan walked toward me immediately. "Elise."
There was a softness in his voice I'd never heard before.
I frowned, already out of patience. "Are you here to bring me the divorce agreement?"
His smile faltered for a second, then quickly returned. Avoiding the topic, he pulled out a massive bouquet of roses out of nowhere.
"Elise, do you like them?"
Gasps rippled through the crowd around us.
They were all my colleagues. Ever since the amnesia, I'd kept my distance, careful not to get too close. The last thing I expected was for Jonathan to pull such a cheesy stunt in front of them.
I answered without thinking, "I don't like roses. I actually hate them."
That's what I said, but the little spark in my chest at the sight of them was real.
So, I did like roses after all.
That realization surprised me, because back when I was 18, I didn't like flowers at all.
