There was no response from Matteo.
Mila efficiently deleted his chat box from her recent chats and headed out the door to keep hunting for investors. She visited two firms that morning, but the results were the same—nothing.
At noon, she bought some lunch and stopped by the hospital to see Marcus. She found him buried in work, even with an IV drip hooked to his arm. He was so focused that he hadn't noticed the bag was empty. Blood had already started backing up into the tubing.
Mila rushed over to take care of it. She swapped in a fresh bag and cleared the air from the line with practiced ease.
Marcus watched her, surprised. "How do you know how to do that?" he asked.
"My mother's health isn't great. You pick things up when you're a caregiver," Mila said.
Marcus just muttered an "oh" in response, unsure how to keep the conversation going. He was a textbook tech geek—awkward in social settings and completely inexperienced when it came to women.
