Noah couldn't remember signing any divorce papers. He let out a cold laugh and was about to refute it outright when a memory surfaced in his mind.
It was about a month ago.
"It isn't safe for Bella to go home alone. You can grab a cab."
Emily had fallen silent for a long time. In the end, she didn't argue and produced a file from her bag. "Fine, but as compensation, can I have a gift?"
That was the first time she'd ever asked him for a gift. He'd assumed she was just trying to compete for his attention in front of Bella, so he hadn't given it a second thought. He'd readily agreed and signed his name on the papers.
That was the only document he'd ever signed so casually.
He never imagined that one day, that slip of carelessness would cost him so dearly on Emily's account.
"Ha! Great! Find Emily, and I want to know exactly where she is right now!" He was practically forcing the words out through gritted teeth.
