Lila had to find out what was happening.
She quickly checked Owen's vitals. The monitors told her that they were stable. Every reading fluctuated within the expected—safe—range.
Owen was deep asleep now. His breathing was long and even, while his complexion was a little rosier than before.
That showed that the new drug was taking effect and hadn't triggered a severe rejection.
Still, Lila couldn't stay put and wait.
"Keep a close eye on him. If anything's off, call me immediately," she instructed the nurse, then turned and hurried out of the room.
Outside, the hallway was empty but tense.
Staff rushed past her every now and then, faces drawn with worry.
Feeling unsettled, Lila headed straight for Wren's office.
If Rhett was dealing with the mess, Wren was the most likely person he would go to first.
Sure enough, as she reached the office door, she saw a familiar figure.
It was Spencer, Rhett's assistant. He was standing at the threshold, hand raised as if to knock.
