Events unfolded exactly as Rhett had predicted.
As dawn approached, the chaos outside began to subside. The piercing screams and explosions faded, replaced by the rhythmic thud of marching boots and the rumble of military vehicles.
Nerves, stretched taut all night, finally relaxed, and exhaustion washed over the group like a tide.
Lila and Elizabeth yawned in unison, tears welling in the corners of their eyes.
Just then, hotel security knocked on their door.
After confirming that it was safe, they hauled away the thief, whose limbs were trussed up tightly, promising to hand him over to the cops.
With the final threat removed, Elizabeth breathed a sigh of relief.
She stood up and stretched her limbs. Looking at Lila's weary face, she cast a meaningful glance at Rhett.
"Since everything is fine now, I'm going back to my room to sleep." She winked at Lila. "You two should get some rest."
With that, she slipped out the door without looking back.
