Chapter 38
A flicker of excitement crossed the intruder's face as he crept towards Daphne. He planned to remove the device from her wrist.
Suddenly, Daphne's eyes snapped open, startling the agent.
She kicked him away, and with a swift motion, she switched on the bedroom light. The bright glare revealed the familiar face of the agent from earlier that day.
The agent let out an awkward laugh. "Sorry, I remembered that I left something here earlier. I didn't want to bother you, so I let myself in. I was just about to leave."
"Stop it right there," commanded Daphne. "What exactly did you lose?"
The agent stammered, unable to come up with an answer.
"Is it your keys? I was cleaning up today, and I noticed an extra set of keys."
"Yes! I lost my keys."
"Come with me," Daphne said as she led him toward the kitchen.
As they passed through the dimly lit living room, she cast an extra glance at Lucien.
