Paige's POV
"I won't ask what happened, Ares. I just need to know one thing," I said, my amber eyes studying my cousin's gaunt face.
The moonlight cast shadows across the floor, highlighting the hollow places beneath Ares' cheekbones.Despite his illness, he still carried himself with the natural authority of a strong Beta wolf.
He nodded, his scent tinged with the note of medication. "What do you need to know?"
"Are you getting treatment?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.To see him weakened this way made my wolf whine with distress.
A smile touched his lips. "I haven't given up on my life, Paige. Yes, I've been getting treatment since day one. Even lone wolves know when to accept help."
I squeezed my eyes closed, feeling the tears as I chewed my bottom lip. My wolf pushed against my consciousness, wanting to comfort Ares.
