Chapter 1009

“I’ve already said that I wasn’t the one who killed her! Don’t go throwing false accusations as you please!” Snorting in response, Xavia replied, “Like I’d ever believe that. You may have been able to trick the others, but I’m no fool, Jenna. After all that’s happened, do you seriously expect me to believe that you and Keith could ever have a proper relationship? Let alone one that involved actual love?” Going pale upon hearing that, Jenna gritted her teeth as she retorted, “You…! Listen here, Xavia! Don’t you already have the advantage here…?! Hasn’t that been the case ever since the divorce was announced?! Besides, you talk about love when you actively attempted to steal the title of Mrs. Burton from me? Don’t make me laugh!” “Regardless, this is the last time I’m repeating myself. Stop accusing me of your grandmother’s death, and I’ll leave you alone. Continue, however, and I’ll expose everything about you and Zivon! If I’m going down, we’re going down together…!” declared Jenna before turning to leave… In response, all Xavia did was smirk. Though that declaration sounded certain, there wouldn’t be a need for Jenna to threaten her with Zivon if that woman was truly confident… Alas, just as Jenna had said, Xavia had no further evidence against her right now… As Xavia aimlessly walked on the streets, wondering what she should do next, she snapped out of it when she suddenly heard the honk of a car. Turning around, she was greeted by the sight of a luxurious Maybach… and sitting inside, was the familiar prestigious man… Somehow, not seeing him for a few days was enough to make him look even grander than usual… Shaking the thoughts off, Xavia was prompted to ask, “…Young Master Burton…? What are you doing here…?” Upon hearing that, Zivon’s eyes went slightly dark. He, for one, had been surprised when he heard from Zayne that Xavia had returned to Darlsbury. After all, he had given her three days, yet she was home so quickly. Alas, it was clear that she hadn’t returned because of him since instead of returning to his side, she had prioritized going to the Lockhart Mansion. Though he had been irked by this, now that the helpless-looking woman was standing before him, he simply couldn’t bring himself to continue feeling angry. In the end, he simply got out and said, “Get in first…” After nodding in response, Xavia allowed him to help her in. She, for one, hadn’t cried after watching that news yesterday, nor had she been aggrieved by her earlier confrontation with Francis and Jenna. However, upon seeing Zivon, her heart was immediately filled with grief… Looking at the aggrieved woman who had her head lowered from the second she saw him, Zivon couldn’t help but raise a slight brow as he wiped her stray tears off. Following that, he was prompted to say, “Crying the second we meet? Did you see visions of my death or something?” …Why was he even setting death flags for himself… Either way, it took her a while but she eventually managed to reply, “…It’s not like I wanted to cry… I just couldn’t stop the tears the second I saw you…” Hearing that, Zivon was prompted to tease, “Are you saying that my superpower is making you cry, then? That aside… What are you crying for? Is it Jenna?” Though he had asked in a gentlemanly way, it simultaneously felt like he found the matter to be rather trivial… and that made Xavia feel slightly uncomfortable. In the end, Xavia replied, “…Yeah… She’s just… always two steps ahead of me, you know? Now that she’s outed herself with a completely fabricated story, all the previous evidence we’ve gathered has lost most of their value… It’s upsetting, to say the least, though I don’t expect you to understand the feeling…” After all, to Zivon, her grandmother was probably just another dead person… Instantly sensing her implications, Zivon raised a slight brow as he said, “What? You don’t think I care about you? That aside, why are you suddenly mocking me when Jenna’s your target.” …So he was able to see through her words… Watching as the woman gulped slightly awkwardly, Zivon ended up adding, “In the end, you’re still an inexperienced and simple-minded young lady… With that said, be good and say something nice to me. Perhaps I’ll give you some good information then…”
