Chapter 1053
“In the end, she was partly injured by fire, and quite a bit of smoke entered her lungs, causing her to go unconscious. However, I’ve talked to the doctor, and he said she was going to be fine. I’m only telling you this now since I thought you wanted to send Lady Burton off peacefully…” concluded Nathan.
With how quick-witted that woman had been, Zivon couldn’t even find any fault with her actions. In the end, he was prompted to say, “…I see. Get me to the hospital, then.”
“Right away, Young Master Burton…”
Shortly after, they arrived at the hospital… and upon arriving at Xavia’s ward, he was greeted by the sight of Stefan sitting by a hospital bed… A bed which Xavia was lying on. She had a hospital gown on, and though her face was pale, it appeared quite peaceful…
Though it had only been three days since they last met, it had felt like a lifetime for Zivon. With that in mind, he quickly walked over to her before asking in a serious tone, “She hasn’t woken up?”
Upon realizing that Zivon was here, Stefan turned to look at him as he replied, “She woke up this morning. Don’t worry, the doctor said she’ll be fine… You done with the funeral?”
“I am. That aside… Have you looked into the matter?” asked Zivon in an icy tone as he sat by the sleeping woman’s side. Whoever had dared to hurt Xavia while he was preoccupied with his grandmother’s wake… They had guts for sure.
Upon hearing that, Stefan’s gaze fell for a bit… but he eventually replied, “…Lily was the culprit.”
This, of course, caught Zivon off guard. Wasn’t Lily head over heels for that man? Why would she do all this?
Sensing Zivon’s confusion, Stefan explained, “…Basically, since she blamed Xavia for our divorce, she set us up so that she could take some embarrassing pictures of us and post them on Facebook…”
…How the hell were jealous women this capable of doing such stupid things…? That aside…
Raising a slight brow as he glared at Stefan, Zivon then asked, “…I see. It does make me wonder, however, if your divorce had anything to do with her…?”
His implications were clear, and Stefan couldn’t help but laugh weakly as he replied, “Whether it did or didn’t doesn’t matter… After all, Xavia felt that starting a fire was more acceptable than sleeping with me. With that said, please take good care of her, Zivon. She’s a rare gem.”
After saying that, Stefan gave Xavia one final look… before leaving the ward, causing the room to go silent again…
Zivon himself couldn’t help but continue staring at the door, long after Stefan had left. After all, that man had just shown his love for Xavia, and though he was ultimately unable to get her, Zivon still felt slightly irked that a great man like Stefan had feelings for his woman…
In the end, Zivon gently caressed Xavia’s cheek before saying in a helpless tone, “You’re a love rival magnet, you know?”
As he did that, Xavia slowly stirred from her sleep, though her eyes remained closed. Even so, she could still feel the tenderness of the hand on her cheek… After a while, she finally found the energy to open her eyes again… and upon seeing the picturesque man sitting before her, her eyes instantly widened as she exclaimed, “Y-Young Master Burton…? What are you doing here…?”
Upon realizing that she was bothering him during Ava’s wake, she couldn’t help but feel slightly guilty as she added, “…T-that aside, there’s really no need to worry about me… You can head back to resume the funeral…”
…Though her jealousy was out of this world, the fact that she could be this understanding broke Zivon’s heart… In the end, Zivon gently replied, “…It’s over. With that said, allow me to keep you company for now…”
