Chapter Eighty-Six: The Suspicion I
We said nothing to each other, and somehow it was as though silence had become loud. It was clear we were both in our heads. I turned to find his eyes focused on the road; his thoughts could be running wild even if he acted as though he had nothing on his mind; they were all jammed in there somehow, just the way that felt clogged up too. I felt it was awkward—the silence—for two lovers who could not keep their hands to themselves. Something needed to be done to clear the air a bit more before we got to where we would have to depart. I knew I had to say something to ease the tension that grew between us. Nothing came to mind, only questions that could elicit more anger and harsh words.
“You have never really mentioned your favorite flower. What is it?”
“That’s because I don’t have any. I don’t do flowers.”
“But you have a couple on your porch.”
“You made me choose those, remember?”
“Oh yeah, but why?”
“Well, I don’t see them as anything special, though. I would say that I am not a plant
