Maximilian’s Point of View
The boardroom was suffocating. The thick air reeked of desperation and sweat, though the room itself was pristine, its glass walls reflecting the dim light of the overcast day outside. I sat at the head of the long, polished table, my back straight, my expression cold, even though inside, I felt like I was standing on the edge of a crumbling cliff.
The board members were gathered, murmuring amongst themselves, their eyes darting toward me and then away, as though they were afraid to look me in the eye for too long. Cowards. All of them.
I gripped the arm of my chair, my patience wearing thin. Clara had informed me that a new investor was scheduled to meet us today someone with the kind of financial muscle we needed to steady the ship. It was our last chance, and I couldn’t afford to let it slip away.
The door creaked open, and Clara stepped in, her expression unreadable. “Sir, the investor has arrived.”
I gave her a short nod, masking the flicker
