Eva's Point of View
I stepped into my office, the cool air a welcome relief from the sweltering heat outside. The familiar scent of fresh coffee and the soft click-clack of my assistant typing away at her desk were comforting, though they did little to ease the weight in my chest. It was Monday, but the weekend’s memories still clung to me.
Mia, my secretary, looked up from her desk as I entered. Her eyes flickered nervously, but she quickly masked it with a polite smile. She was always careful around me now, ever since everything with Max had started to unravel.
“Good morning, Ms. Eva,” she said, her voice soft and tentative.
“Morning, Mia,” I replied, trying to keep my tone neutral. I’d grown used to the cautious way people spoke to me lately, especially since my past had became public. It seemed like everyone was walking on eggshells around me, unsure of what to say or how to act.
