I sat beside my father’s hospital bed, the sterile scent of the room mixing with the faint hum of machines keeping him alive. His face, once full of life, now looked so pale, so still. I gripped his hand tightly, as if my touch could somehow bring him back. I didn’t know how much longer I could keep this up. Every day felt like an eternity, and every moment without him felt like I was losing a part of myself.
“Dad,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “It’s been a week. A whole week since you... since you fell into this coma. Please, wake up. I need you. The company needs you. I can’t do this without you.”
My throat tightened, but I fought back the tears. I wouldn’t cry. Not yet. Not until I knew if there was even a chance he would open his eyes again. He had always been the strong one, the one who held everything together. But now, it was all falling apart.
